My first paid writing gig was for Computers & Electronics magazine when I was thirteen years old: a small article about a database I set up for my Little League team. â€‹

I got $125 for that article, back when $125 was real money. My parents told me it was time to learn the value of saving money, so I spent it all on a synthesizer and joined a rock band. We had a big Marshall Stack amp in my garage that left our ears ringing for days at a time. Our rehearsals drove the neighbors insane for four years.

There weren't many tears shed when I left for college.

I've since written marketing books used in MBA programs, blogs, storyboards, speeches, press releases, web copy, email campaigns, social media communications, proposals, articles, user guides, technical manuals, seminars, short stories, and a novel.

My best-known work is The Channel Advantage, which led to a great career as a channel strategist and head of a boutique 30-person market strategy firm. Our clients included tech powerhouses and household names like HP, GE, Microsoft, Oracle, and AMD. With IBM executive Vin Izzi, I traveled to twenty countries helping IBM's business partners craft go-to-market plans and drive deals. We went to places like Reykjavik and Dubai and Kuala Lumpur and helped generate millions of dollars in new revenues. We had a blast.

In 2013, the company closed up shop and I embarked on a new career as a business writer and, later, editor of both fiction and non-fiction.

Let's talk about the 800-pound elephant in the room, ChatGPT (and LLMs in general). I saw the AI train coming a year ago and got on board, because as a writer/editor I figured I could either be on that train or get run over by it. At least half of my time is spent helping train AIs. I've written over 1,000 prompts and responses this year, so I've gotten to know AIs pretty well.

I still do some editing work on the side, mostly in the fiction space, but since 2022 my work has been primarily in AI. It was obvious to anyone paying attention in 2022 that AI would be the game-changer in the writing business -- and in fact, in most businesses. I decided to get on the train instead of getting run over by it. I started small, doing data annotation work, but in time that evolved into a project management role, overseeing huge projects of 1,000+ staff. I've had lots of opportunities to get off the AI train and back to writing/editing work, but AI is where my heart is.

My writing samples are a cross-section of my work and include chapters from my published business books, some blog posts from the Lake Eerie Books Blog where I was Senior Editor until going full-time with AI, and a few creative fiction works. I also included a document with a couple of editing samples, because I still do some editing work for various companies.
